Opening a student bank account
British banks have introduced strict regulations about opening bank accounts. Security procedures have been implemented which can lead to delays for students who try to open an account on arrival in the UK.
The bank will ask you to provide documentation that confirms some or all of the following details:
- Your identity (e.g. passport)
- Your student status (e.g. letter of acceptance/registration)
- Your address
- Your overseas address
Different banks require different forms of documentation and you should allow for delays in obtaining these. You will normally have to be a registered student before you can open a bank account, so bring enough funds to tide you over if you plan to arrive in the UK before registration week.
If you plan to transfer your tuition fees from your home bank account to your UK bank account, remember that transferring funds will depend on your home bank's procedures and this could take more time than you expect. You should discuss this with your bank before leaving home, and remember to bring sufficient funds - say travellers' cheques or credit cards - with you to cover any delays.
Before open a bank account, you should consult with your university/school and the banks’ websites so that you get the best deal out there. Some banks offer better student accounts than others. So, do your homework.

เปิดบัญชีธนาคาร (สำหรับนักเรียน)
ธนาคารในสหราชอาณาจักรมีกฎระเบียบที่ค่อนข้างเข้มงวดเกี่ยวกับการเปิดบัญชีและมีการใช้มาตรการความปลอดภัยต่างๆ ซึ่งอาจทำให้เกิดความล่าช้าในการเปิดบัญชีแก่นักเรียนที่เพิ่งมาถึงใหม่ๆ
ธนาคารจะขอให้ท่านเตรียมเอกสารต่างๆ ที่ยืนยันสิ่งเหล่านี้ทั้งหมด หรือ เพียงบางส่วน
- เอกสารประจำตัว (เช่น หนังสือเดินทาง)
- สถานภาพนักเรียน (เช่น จดหมายรับเข้าเรียน หรือ เอกสารการลงทะเบียน)
- สำเนาหลักฐานของที่อยู่ในสหราชอาณาจักร อาทิเช่น ใบเสร็จชำระค่าหอที่พักจากหมาลัยฯ, ค่าไฟ หรือ หลักฐานเซ็นสัญญาบ้านเช่าจากสำนักงานจัดหาบ้านหรือจากเจ้าของบ้านเช่าโดยตรง
- สำเนาหลักฐานที่อยู่ของที่บ้านในประเทศไทย
แต่ละธนาคารต้องการเอกสารที่แตกต่างกัน ซึ่งโดยปกติท่านจะต้องลงทะเบียนเป็นนักเรียนอย่างเป็นทางการให้เรียบร้อยเสียก่อนที่จะเปิดบัญชีธนาคารได้ ดังนั้น หากว่าท่านต้องไปถึงที่ประเทศอังกฤษก่อนที่จะลงทะเบียน ท่านควรจะนำเงินสดติดตัวไว้ให้พอใช้สำหรับระยะหนึ่ง
ในกรณีทีท่านต้องการจะโอนเงินค่าเล่าเรียนจากบัญชีธนาคารที่ประเทศไทยมายังบัญชีธนาคารที่ประเทศอังกฤษ ท่านควรจะต้องตรวจสอบนโยบายของธนาคารผู้โอนที่ประเทศไทย เนื่องจากอาจจะต้องใช้เวลาในการดำเนินการมากเกินความคาดหมาย และท่านควรจะปรึกษาธนาคารผู้โอนก่อนที่ท่านจะเดินทางออกนอกประเทศ นอกจากนั้นท่านควรจะนำเงินสด, ตั๋วเงินสำหรับนักท่องเที่ยว หรือ บัตรเครดิตติดตัวไปสำหรับพอใช้ในกรณีฉุกเฉินด้วย
ก่อนเปิดบัญชีธนาคาร คุณควรตรวจสอบเรื่องนี้กับมหาวิทยาลัย/สถานศึกษา และเว็บไซต์ของธนาคาร เพื่อให้ได้รับข้อเสนอที่ดีที่สุด บางธนาคารให้ข้อเสนอการเปิดบัญชีสำหรับนักเรียนที่ดีกว่าธนาคารอื่น ฉะนั้น คุณควรตรวจสอบข้อมูลให้ดี
